Brazing Fundamentals & Test Practice

12 Students max.

This one day class offers the opportunity to brush up on proper safety and theory of brazing copper to copper, copper to Brass, & copper to Steel. In class will be approx. 2.5 hours combined with 4 hours of practical in the shop on sizes of 1 3/8" O.D. Up to 2 5/8" OD. The emphasis of this program is to prepare the Brazer for passing the TSSA brazing tests offered through ORACA and Local 787 JTAC. No certificates will be issued for this class.

CO2 Carbon Dioxide (R744)

Certification Training (12 students Maximum/ 9 minimum)

Fundamentals of carbon dioxide refrigeration systems, safety, design, installation, operation and maintenance and handling of the refrigerant for Subcritical and Transcritical R744 applications. Working on an actual Transcritical CO2 trainer, similar to what might be found in a supermarket application, the participant will charge, commission and decommission a CO2 system.

Control Basics (Yorkland)

Demand Control Ventilation Applications (Yorkland) including economizers)

DCV provides real savings and opportunity to engage customers by showing how they can take advantage of utility rebates for upgrading systems. Hands-on training for setting up the next generation of ZIP and Jade Economizers when replacing older systems. Review of the energy savings tools, service setup, and retrofit opportunities in the winter months. Course dates for winter 2017 for London & Ottawa will be determined once there is a full class. Gas TSSA Fuels Technician Certification Courses

The JTAC offers classes for all levels of Fuel Technician courses at the Training Centre in Brampton including GT1, GT2 and GT3 weekend programs, which are delivered every other Saturday and Sunday. In addition, we offer Modified GT1 blocks, Modified OBT 3/2 blocks (as needed) and Modified GT2 blocks (as needed and subject to TSSA approval). All Fuel Energies Technician courses are on a sign-up date basis and confirmation of payment for course materials prior to attending. Classes must be filled prior to us running a subsequent class.

GT1 Modified Program Class 1 (Brampton)
Multiple Classes: Dates begin in January 2018 - 3 weeks’ recess: exam on last day - 18 days (2 x 9 day blocks) of intensive training (100% attendance is required for modified TSSA programs). A Letter of Proof of Experience on G1 equipment is required.
 

GT2 Modified Program (Brampton)
As the GT2 modified program is delivered in four, 9 day blocks over a period of 4 months, it is subject to pre-requisites. Applicants must meet the following criteria to participate in the G2 Modified program:

  • 4,000 documented hours of HVACR trade experience
  •  Satisfactory completion of Level 2 of the JTAC Apprenticeship Training Program or satisfactory completion of MTCU 313A/313D Level 1 trade school
  •  (100% attendance is required for modified TSSA programs)

This 20-hour course is approved by LG for Certification for the Installation of LG Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems Participants will be provided Factory Installation and Service information, and required software. Upon successful completion, which includes 100% attendance, the participants will receive LG VRF Certification.

Mitsubishi Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)

 

Level 1 Certification (16 students Maximum)

This 20 hour course is approved by Mitsubishi for Certification for the Installation of Mitsubishi Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems Participants will be provided Factory Installation and Service information, and required software. Upon successful completion, which includes 100% attendance, the participants will receive Mitsubishi VRF Certification. Individuals are required to bring laptops.

VFD Variable Frequency Drive Basics

This course will provide an over-view of current drive fundamentals, PWM, basic electronics, operation, maintenance, hazards, load types, fusing, load and line reactors, harmonic distortion, control strategies, and PID. Lab work included.

Welding Technology 1

8 Students max. 

This course requires no previous welding experience, but will give the student the opportunity to learn the basic safety required for electric arc welding. The three processes of SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) welding will be covered. Emphasis will be on proper set-up of the welding machine for each process, the different filler metals, and techniques for each. The student will have the opportunity to try each process in the practical sessions on mild steel.

Zoning & VAV Basics (Yorkland)

Review of pressure dependent and independent systems with hands-on using self configuring products from various manufacturers (Viconics, KMC, Schneider, and Johnson Controls). At the end of the session, participants will set up a complete zoning system without special software tools.
