2025 JTAC TRAINING COURSES & CERTIFICATIONS
A2L Refrigerant Training Program oNLINE
The A2L Refrigerant Training program is intended to provide 313A and 313D apprentices and journeypersons the information for best practices to work safely with approved flammable and mildly flammable refrigerants. Upon successful completion of A2L training the participant will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Chiller & Cooling Tower Operation and Maintenance of Chillers
Both Centrifugal and Positive Displacement Systems will be covered, with an added emphasis on Cooling Tower Operation and Maintenance.

CO2 Carbon Dioxide (R744)
The R744 (CO2) training program will provide the participant with an opportunity to discover the uses of natural refrigerants in the refrigeration sector, and to safely work with R744. The session will provide an overview of Transcortical CO2 design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of a system containing R744. There will be an instructor led demonstration of refrigeration system utilizing R744 and the associated control system.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Electrical Troubleshooting will provide the participant with a review of using HVACR diagrams for diagnostic and troubleshooting of systems. In person attendance is limited to 20 participants.

GAS TECHNICIAN 3 (G3) - WEEKENDS
The TSSA Gas Technician 3 (G3) certification is an essential step for anyone entering the gas service industry in Ontario. It allows you to work under the direct supervision of a G1- or G2-licensed gas technician, performing tasks such as installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining gas lines and equipment up to 400,000 BTUH.
To obtain the G3 certification, you must complete a TSSA-approved training course and pass the related provincial qualification exam. The training course typically includes both theoretical education and practical training, and you must achieve a grade average of 75% or higher in both areas.
After completing the training and meeting the prerequisites, you can register for the TSSA Gas Technician 3 Exam. The exam must be written within one year of completing the training.

GAS TECHNICIAN 2 (G2) - EVENINGS OR MODIFIED
The TSSA Gas Technician 2 (G2) licence allows individuals to work independently on natural gas and propane equipment up to 400,000 BTUH, which can be found in various applications such as residential, commercial, and light industrial settings.
To obtain this licence, candidates must complete TSSA-approved training and pass the related provincial qualification exam.
They must also have a valid Gas Technician 3 (G3) licence and meet attendance and grade requirements specified by the training provider.
Upon completion of the training, candidates must pass the TSSA Gas Technician 2 exam, which consists of multiple-choice questions based on the CSA Standard modules (10 to 24) and the CAN/CSA-B149.1 and B149.2 code books.
Successful candidates will be able to work more independently without needing supervision.
You must achieve a grade average of 75% or higher.

GAS TECHNICIAN 1 (G1) - weekends or MODIFIED
A Gas Technician 1 (G1) licence from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) in Ontario allows individuals to work on natural gas and propane equipment of any BTU input, including residential, commercial, and industrial applications such as furnaces, water heaters, stoves, clothes dryers, pool heaters, and fireplaces.
To obtain the G1 licence, candidates must complete a TSSA-approved training course and pass the related provincial qualification exam. Additionally, candidates must have a valid Gas Technician 2 (G2) licence and at least two years (4,000 hours) of field experience as a G2-licensed gas technician, with a minimum of 500 hours on systems with an input in excess of 400,000 BTUH under the direct supervision of a G1-licensed gas technician.
Candidates must achieve a grade average of 75% or higher on both theoretical education and practical training to qualify for the TSSA Gas Technician 1 Exam.
Candidates can also challenge the exam without completing the training course if they have written approval from the TSSA and meet the necessary experience requirements.

Hydronics Course
This course is designed around the fundamentals of hydronics and the understanding of all of the products therein. From understanding the differences between retrofit to new install, creating a heat loss calculation, water quality, and product selection, this course covers all basic areas on Hydronic design and install. This course also covers some key criteria outlined in the CSA B214 hydronics installation code to ensure you know what your liabilities and scope are of the projects you work on.

Hydronic System Water Quality Training BY ADEY
Various factors can cause corrosion in a hydronic system, leading to efficiency losses, equipment damage and even failures.
In this session, ADEY will explain the factors causing corrosion, the effects of corrosion, and how to counteract corrosion using a simple best practice method: Test, Clean, Protect, and Maintain.

Variable Refrigeration Flow (VRF)
VRF training will include an overview of current VFD fundamentals, PWM, basic electronics, operation and maintenance, hazards, and control strategies.
