A2L Refrigerant Training dAY Program
JTAC is offering free A2L Refrigerant Training for UA Local 787 members working for ORAC contractors in Nov–Dec 2025. This 4-hour course (with UA 787 & MLITSD) focuses on the safe use of newer, mildly flammable refrigerants replacing older products.
The training includes instructor-led learning plus an ESCO certification exam, with a certificate issued after passing. Topics cover safe handling, transport, and safety regulations.

This one-day A2L Refrigerant Training course helps HVAC professionals learn how to safely work with newer, mildly flammable refrigerants. It’s designed for 313A & 313D apprentices and licensed journeypersons who want to stay current with industry standards and safety requirements.
Participants will learn about A2L refrigerant properties, classifications, and safe handling, along with best practices for installation, service, maintenance, and risk management. The course also covers key safety procedures and regulatory requirements, helping attendees work confidently with modern systems.

Chiller & Cooling Tower Operation and Maintenance of Chillers

CO2 Carbon Dioxide (R744)
The R744 (CO₂) Training Program provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand the application of natural refrigerants within the refrigeration sector, with a focus on the safe handling and operation of R744 systems.
The session includes:

Best practices for installation, commissioning, and maintenance

Gas Technician 3 (G3) Weekend Program
Start your career in the gas industry with this TSSA-approved G3 training program. This weekend course provides hands-on learning and is ideal for those entering HVAC or gas-related trades. Spots are limited and registration is confirmed after payment.
You will learn gas safety, theory, installation, maintenance, equipment inspection, and repair, giving you the foundation needed to begin working in the field. After certification, you can work under a G1 or G2 technician on systems up to 400,000 BTUH.

Gas Technician 2 (G2) Training Program
Advance your career with this TSSA-approved G2 training program, offered in flexible evening and modified schedules. It’s designed for G3-certified technicians ready to take the next step.
The G2 licence allows you to work independently on natural gas and propane equipment up to 400,000 BTUH, opening opportunities in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings.
The program covers installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, along with key standards like CSA Modules 10–24 and B149.1 / B149.2 gas codes, ensuring you meet current industry requirements.

GAS TECHNICIAN 1 (G1) - weekends or MODIFIED
A G1 Gas Technician licence in Ontario allows you to work on natural gas and propane equipment of any BTU size across residential, commercial, and industrial settings, including furnaces, water heaters, stoves, dryers, pool heaters, and fireplaces.
To qualify, you must first hold a valid G2 licence and complete at least two years or 4,000 hours of field experience, including a minimum of 500 hours working on systems over 400,000 BTU under the supervision of a licensed G1 technician.
You can either complete a TSSA-approved training program, often offered on weekends or flexible schedules, or challenge the exam directly if you meet the experience requirements and receive approval. A minimum average of 75% is required in both theory and practical assessments, followed by successfully passing the provincial TSSA G1 exam, which covers gas codes, system design, troubleshooting, and safety.
Key points to remember:
G1 is the highest gas licence in Ontario
Requires G2 licence + 4,000 hours experience

Hydronics Fundamentals: Design & Installation

This comprehensive two-day VRF training program provides participants with a strong foundation in Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, with a focus on Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin technologies.

Course: Easy IO
EasyIO is a robust and flexible line of IP-based controllers that does not require licensing. Participants will receive hands-on overview of the EasyIO product line. Participants will be able to identify various EasyIO controller types and uses for each. Additionally participants will write programming logic and create graphics with CPT, a free tool used to program EasyIO controllers.
Laptops for in class use will be provided.

System 550 is a basic DDC controller used for simple applications where BAS systems would be too costly. Participants will receive hands-on overview of the System 550 product. Participants will also learn basic controls concepts such as inputs, outputs, control signals, and PID loops. Additionally, participants will configure the System 550 to perform a specific sequence of operations.

Course: Belimo Gas Detection
Belimo offers a selection of gas monitors to monitor, alarm, and control ventilation based on the presence of various gasses. Participants will receive hands-on overview of the Belimo gas detection product line. Participants will be able to select Belimo gas detection product based on required gasses to monitor and area coverage. Additionally participants will configure two Belimo gas detection sensors, adjust setpoints and alarm levels, and share information to one another over a 3-wire bus to create zoning.
